Gutter guards are a simple upgrade that can save you hours of maintenance and help protect your home from water damage. Here's how they work and what to expect when you install them with NEMO Seamless Gutter.
What gutter guards do
Gutter guards are covers or screens that sit over your gutters. They let rainwater in while keeping the bigger stuff out, so your gutters stay clear and water keeps moving to the downspouts.
- Block leaves and debris: leaves, pine needles, twigs, and roof grit are kept out so they can't pile up and form clogs.
- Keep water flowing: with the channel clear, rainwater drains freely instead of overflowing the edges.
- Less time on a ladder: you won't need to clean your gutters out nearly as often, which means fewer trips up the ladder.
Benefits
- Fewer clogs and overflows: water stays in the gutter and heads for the downspout instead of spilling over the side.
- Less standing water: reducing pooled water and damp debris can help cut down on mosquitoes in warm months and ice dams in winter.
- Protects your home: properly draining gutters help protect your fascia, siding, and foundation from water that would otherwise overflow.
- Longer gutter life: keeping out heavy, wet debris reduces the strain and rust that can shorten a gutter's lifespan.
- Less frequent cleaning: you'll spend far less time maintaining your gutters season after season.
New or existing gutters
You don't need new gutters to add protection. We can install guards as part of a brand-new seamless gutter installation, or retrofit them onto the gutters you already have, as long as your current system is in good shape.
- On new gutters: add guards at the same time we install your seamless gutters for a complete, low-maintenance system.
- On existing gutters: we'll check the condition of your current gutters and, where they're sound, fit guards to them so you get the benefits without replacing everything.
Our process
Free on-site assessment
We come out and take a look at your roofline, the pitch and layout of your gutters, and the trees around your home. The kind and amount of debris your gutters deal with helps us recommend the right protection.
Recommendation that fits your home
We'll suggest a guard style that suits your roof and the debris you're dealing with, and walk you through the options so you can decide what's right for you.
Professional installation and clean-up
Our team installs the guards correctly and securely, then cleans up the work area before we leave. The goal is a tidy job and gutters you can stop worrying about.
A note on maintenance
We want to be straight with you: gutter guards greatly reduce how often your gutters need attention, but no guard eliminates maintenance 100% of the time. Depending on your trees and roof, you may still need an occasional check or rinse. Even so, the difference in how much work your gutters demand is significant.

Common questions
Do gutter guards work with pine needles and maple seeds?
Fine micro-mesh handles pine needles and maple seeds better than wide screens or foam inserts, which tend to trap them. If you have white pines or silver maples close to the house, we'll recommend a tighter mesh and show you a sample before you decide.
Can you put guards on my existing gutters, or do they need replacing?
If your gutters are sound, properly pitched and firmly attached, guards can go right on top. If the gutter is sagging, rusted through at the seams, or undersized for the roof area draining into it, covering it up just hides the problem. We'll tell you which you're looking at.
What does gutter guard installation cost?
It depends on the linear footage, the guard style you choose, how many stories, roof pitch and whether the existing gutters need repair or replacement first. We measure the house and give you a free written estimate so the number is based on your roof, not an average.
Will I still have to clean my gutters after guards are installed?
Guards cut out the hand-scooping, but they aren't zero maintenance. Shingle grit and fine debris can build on top of mesh, and valleys where two roof planes meet see the heaviest load. A look once or twice a year, usually from the ground, is enough on most homes.
Do gutter guards help with ice in winter?
They keep the trough clear so meltwater has somewhere to go, which helps. But ice dams come from heat escaping through the roof deck, so guards alone won't stop them. If you're getting ice every winter, the fix is usually attic insulation and ventilation.
